Stockport MP “Thrilled” to Bring the Spirit of Stockport to the House of Commons Bar
Stockport Gin, a renowned independent distillery, recently made its mark in the heart of British politics as it secured a spot on the shelves of the Strangers' Bar in the House of Commons.
The introduction of Stockport Gin to the drinks menu of this historic venue followed a successful bid by Stockport’s Member of Parliament, Navendu Mishra, who wanted to bring a taste of home to the Commons.
Speaking of this result, Navendu commented:
I am thrilled to have played a role in bringing Stockport Gin to the Strangers' Bar. Stockport Gin is an iconic Stockport company and exemplifies the innovation and excellence that defines our town and its thriving independent businesses.
After receiving a ‘Best in Britain’ award at the British Gin Awards, Stockport Gin has continued to go from strength to strength and attract the national attention it deserves. I am committed to advocating for Stockport’s small businesses, which make such an important contribution to the strength and vibrancy of our local economy and communities.
Navendu has been keen to support Stockport’s pubs, breweries and distilleries in the past, using speeches in the House of Commons as an opportunity to celebrate companies such as Stockport Gin and Robinsons Brewery; a company which has been brewing beer in Stockport since 1838. He has raised the challenges that independent businesses in the food and drink sector face due to the current economic climate and, amidst increasing closures, called on the Government to enact measures of support.
To celebrate Stockport Gin’s entry into the House of Commons bar, Navendu invited the company’s owners, Paul and Cheryl, to visit Parliament. Speaking of this, they said, “We could not be happier to see Stockport Gin on the shelves of the Strangers’ Bar and want to thank Navendu for working hard to promote us and advocate for our sector. We are extremely proud to be a Stockport-based company and can’t wait to see what the future holds for both our company and our town.”
