As part of National HIV Testing Week – HIV England’s flagship annual event to promote regular checks – Navendu Mishra submitted a blood sample with his free HIV test kit.

In light of the Covid-19 pandemic and current national lockdown, NHTW is focusing on promoting HIV testing at home, with the MP doing his in Stockport.

An estimated one in 16 people with HIV don’t know that they have the infection, and will spend an average of three to five years unaware they have the virus, so regular testing is vital.

Speaking afterwards, Mr Mishra said:

“This is an important initiative that will help us to reduce the number of undiagnosed people with HIV, as well as those who are identified with the virus late, and ensure they receive treatment. The test kit is free, quick and easy to use and I would urge everyone to use it.”
