Anti-Social Behaviour

I recently met with representatives from Stockport Council, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) and Stockport Homes to discuss anti-social behaviour incidents in parts of our constituency. 

Acts of anti-social behaviour can become very serious and while I recognise that not all anti-social behaviour is classed as a crime, the impact on victims can be significant.

All parties assured me that they were aware of existing problems and were working together to tackle this problem head on. We discussed in great length some of the issues that have arisen locally, including abuse and threats, reckless driving, and the dangerous use of motorcycles, quad bikes and electric scooters at all hours. 

Research from Greater Manchester Police shows that Stockport was placed second in respect of an increase in vehicle nuisance incident logs relating to off road bikes.

Yet, since 2010, the Government has cut the grant they provide to Greater Manchester Police by £215 million, and as a result, we have 2000 fewer police officers on our streets and 1000 fewer support staff.

Alongside that, funding from the Government to Stockport Council has reduced by over 45% in the period between 2015/16 to 2021/22. 

In the coming months, it is my intention to meet with various stakeholders and residents alongside Greater Manchester Police and the local authority to hear more about what can be done locally to address the issues which are affecting our communities.
